Youth EducationOpera New Jersey has a strong commitment to youth education and provides numerous opportunities to engage children in the world of opera. Our school tours (Interact with Classics) bring an adapted version of a classic opera into the classroom, introducing them to this wonderful art form in an interactive experience that engages the entire audience. More than merely passive audience members, 16-30 students are cast in the production! Taking this idea one step further, our School Residencies are designed to fit each school and help students learn about a variety of topics, including different cultures, history as well as learn about various jobs involved in producing an opera. In Opera New Jersey’s Summer Camp, which is led by OperaNJ's Director of Education and professional opera singers, students will explore opera through theater games and improvisation. They will also watch dress rehearsals of OperaNJ's summer productions. Students will learn about the different jobs of producing and opera from costume design to set construction. The children will also create their own original mini-operas which they will perform at camp's end.
