The Mikado
Frequent Opera New Jersey Stage Director Michael Scarola (2008: La Cenerentola, 2007: The Pirates of Penzance) returns to stage our first summer production in the Matthews Theatre.

The Mikado

By William S. Gilbert & Sir Arthur Sullivan

Performances at McCarter's Matthews Theatre:
July 12m, 17 & 25, 2009

Three little maids from school, a hilariously pompous government official, a wandering minstrel and a Lord High Executioner… These are just some of the colorful characters inhabiting Gilbert & Sullivan’s most famous operetta. Beautiful schoolgirl Yum-Yum is engaged to Ko-Ko the executioner, although she falls in love with the romantic minstrel Nanki-Poo. In typical Gilbert & Sullivan fashion, complications emerge, merriment ensues and all is satisfactorily resolved.

The Mikado will be presented in English with English surtitles projected above the stage.

Casting information will be announced shortly.

Tickets go on sale Fall 2008.
